Cumberland- The Upper Deck Baseball Academy will be holding tryouts for its R.I. Red Sox AAU 2011 teams on September 11th at Tucker Field and The Cumberland-Lincoln Boys Club Field, Cumberland, R.I. Tucker field is located across from Cumberland High School on Mendon Road. The Cumberland-Lincoln Boys Club field is located off Mendon Road on 1 James McKee Way, Cumberland. Upper Deck is running, brand new for 2010, the RI Red Sox AAU Baseball program for ages 9 thru 14!
AAU baseball can be quite different from what you have experienced in the past. Our program will respect player's obligations to Little League baseball....we'll play in and around that schedule as best as possible.

American Legion Tryouts
UPPER DECK BASEBALL ACADEMY is affiliated with AMERICAN LEGION POST 86
We are currently franchised with 1 Senior Team (ages 15 19)
And
1 Junior Team (ages 14 17)
Cumberland High School is our base school , therefore all players from Cumberland High School are required to tryout with our Upper Deck/Post 86 Team.
Any player whos parent or guardians domicile is closest to Cumberland High School and does not attend CHS has an option of playing for our Upper Deck/Post 86 Team or playing for the Team from their school (if there is one)
Any player who lives in a community that does NOT offer American Legion Baseball must abide by the closest base school rule to their domicile
The season runs from June through the first few weeks of August
Tryouts will be held May 17th at Tucker Field in Cumberland beginning at 9:00AM

Firecracker Baseball Tournament
The 2nd Annual Firecracker Baseball Tournament, sponsored by Upper Deck Baseball Post 86 will take place from Thursday, July 2nd through Sunday, July 5th, 2009. This 17 & Under Tournament will be held on three fields in Cumberland, Rhode Island, located just minutes from Providence and southeastern Massachusetts. Last year, there was a great turnout with teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island competing. This year we are adding a skill competition on one of the days of the tournament. These skills competitions will be comprised of individual and team based drills, with awards given out to each winner. Local college coaches and area scouts will be present for this great scouting session.
Each team in the tournament will be guaranteed three-four games for the weekend, which includes the entry fee of $350.00 per team. There will be two divisions of 5 teams with each team playing 1 game against each other in that division. On Sunday, July 5th, 2009 at a local college facility there will be the Final Four. Two games will take place with the winners advancing for the right to play for the 2nd Annual Firecracker Baseball Tournament Championship. All Legion teams, AAU and Town All Star teams are allowed to participate.
Team trophies will be handed out to the top two teams in this tournament. Every player from the two teams in the championship game will receive a tee shirt. Also a Most Valuable Player will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday. Umpires will be board certified, for a list of rules and regulations please contact the numbers at the bottom of the news release. Deadline to enter the tournament will be June 1st, 2009 or until the tournament is filled at 10 teams. Please enter early to secure your spot in this one and only local Junior Legion tournament.
There will be concession stands at each field throughout the weekend, consisting of hot dogs, pizza and burgers. Since the action will be intense and the weather will be hot, there will be water, soda and other drinks on hand. There will be raffles and other prizes helping raise money for the Post 86. Volunteers and donations of any kind are always welcome!
